Midnight Rescue of Injured Dog Near Railway Tracks

A Bark in the Dark
It was almost midnight when a local vendor called our helpline in panic. A street dog had been hit by a passing motorbike and had crawled dangerously close to the railway tracks at Kolkata’s Majherhat Station.
The situation was critical. Not only was the dog bleeding, but a train was due in less than 20 minutes.
Without wasting a second, our volunteer team sprang into action.
The Race Against Time
Navigating through dim alleys and slippery gravel, our team reached the site in under 12 minutes. The dog — a black-and-white stray we later named Shyam — was whimpering and unable to stand.
With help from a few kind locals and a flashlight taped to a bamboo stick, we carefully lifted him onto a stretcher made from an old bedsheet.
The rescue was completed just 3 minutes before a goods train thundered past.
Safe, Treated, and Healing
Shyam was rushed to our partner vet clinic, where he was diagnosed with a fractured hind leg and internal swelling. He’s now recovering well in a safe foster home, enjoying warm food and gentle care.
